SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs will build its 59th store in one of Seattle's fastest-growing neighborhoods, the regional retail pharmacy chain said Wednesday.

Bartells said it would open the store in the South Lake Union neighborhood, home to a growing number of residents and also Amazon's headquarters.

In addition to a full-service pharmacy and OTC section, the 11,600-sq.-ft. store, at the corner of Terry and Mercer streets, will include the chain's "next generation" store concept with an "Urban Market," "Sweets & Snacks," an expanded selection of pet supplies and organic and locally produced products.

"This is an exciting urban location, and our goal is to provide our mix of services and product offerings tailored to workers and residents in the neighborhood," Bartells chairman and CEO George D. Bartell said.

The company said the new store would mark a return of the chain to the neighborhood; founder George Bartell, Sr. established the chain's headquarters on nearby Boren Avenue, which eventually included a candy factory and photo processing lab, serving as the headquarters until 1985.
