NEW YORK — To raise awareness for the quarterly beauty publication Discover Beauty Within, the publication launched its Suite on the Street weeklong initiative on April 2. The Suite is a Walgreens and Discover Beauty Within branded tour bus that will serve as a mobile beauty studio to demonstrate select products and techniques to customers and passers-by. Suite on the Street will stop at Walgreens and Duane Reade locations throughout New York City and the tri-state area with planned stops at stores in Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami throughout the year.

EVANSTON, Ill. — Walgreens broke new ground with its store here, which stands as the first net-zero energy retail store in the United States. The 14,000-sq.-ft. space combines a variety of renewable energy technologies, including two wind turbines and 850 solar panels, to generate as much energy as possible. Eight geothermal wells burrowed deep into the ground help heat and cool the building, whose roof was oriented to maximize the amount of solar energy generated on site.

TORONTO — Canadian retailer Shoppers Drug Mart celebrated in late August the opening of its second enhanced BeautyBoutique at the Toronto Eaton Centre. Continuing its effort to further elevate the beauty experience within its stores, the 4,000-sq.-ft.
