Sales of primary batteries used in consumer products should grow 2.4% each year, according to research from Freedonia Group.
Energizer said the new packaging for the brand's coin lithium batteries meets the strict guidelines set by the Consumer Products Safety Commission for child-resistant packaging.
Rechargeable batteries represent a growth area for retailers. A report from the Freedonia Group indicated that alkaline batteries remain the most prevalent type of primary battery, accounting for more than 70% of demand.
Maxell has introduced a rechargeable lithium ion battery designed to operate in low temperatures, the company said.
