BJ’s Wholesale Club donates $50K to support Boston Food Bank

BJ’s Wholesale Club is doing its part to help The Greater Boston Food Bank.

The Westborough, Mass.-based retailer announced a $50,000 donation to the organization, which is a Feeding America member food bank.

“BJ’s is dedicated to nourishing our communities and helping families thrive by improving access to basic essentials including fresh, nutritious food,” Kirk Saville, the executive director of BJ’s Charitable Foundation, said. “We’re thrilled to donate $50,000 to The Greater Boston Food Bank to support its school pantry program. This grant will help increase access and feed more families in food insecure communities.”

BJ’s donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank is part of the company’s recent $1 million donation to Feeding America.

“One in 11 people is food insecure in Eastern Massachusetts with one in three of those we serve being a child under 18. At The Greater Boston Food Bank, we are fully committed to finding solutions that will help eradicate hunger in Eastern Massachusetts,” Catherine D’Amato, the president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank, said. “We operate a robust network of school-based pantries in high-need communities throughout Eastern Massachusetts to deliver 40 to 50 pounds of nutritious food to each registered family, regardless of their income. With BJ’s generous support, we will be able to increase the amount of fresh, healthy food that is delivered to these communities which will help us reach our vision of a hunger-free Eastern Massachusetts.”
