DSN honors top women in retail

Drug Store News is shining a spotlight on women in the mass retail industry making a difference with its Top Women in Health, Wellness and Beauty Awards, honoring winners with a two-day event held in Chicago in November. 
 
The event, Top Women in Health, Wellness and Beauty, will honor more than 140 women who are making a difference in the mass retail industry. These women were selected by their peers at retail chains, distributors and suppliers across the country. 
 
The event will be held on Nov. 20 and 21 at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago. It will kick off with an evening networking reception that is followed by the award dinner at the Fairmont. 
 
The next morning there is a networking breakfast that is followed by the keynote address given by Kelly McDonald, a marketing and advertising specialist and considered one of the nation’s top experts in consumer trends, generational differences and leveraging the customer experience. She is the founder of McDonald Marketing, which has twice been named one of the “Top Ad Agencies in the U.S.” by Advertising Age magazine and ranked as one of the fastest-growing independently-owned companies in the U.S. by Inc. Magazine.
 
After McDonald’s keynote address, a panel discussion on “Battles Fought, Lost and How We Won,” will discuss how far women have come, what they did to get here and what is needed to reach the next level. Panelist include Judy Sansone of CVS, Lisa Paley of GlaxoSmithKline and Lori Flees of Sam’s Club,
 
Sarah Alter, the CEO of the Network of Executive Women (NEW), will be presenting “Kicking Glass” research. That will be followed by a panel on “Forming Alliances, Finding Sponsors and Learning from Mentors. Panelists will include Sue Smith of Emerson Group, Rina Shah of Walgreens, Alison Castillo of Unilever, Kim Vigliante of Piping Rock and Melissa Myles Edwards of Ulta. 
 
The event will close with a discussion at 11 a.m. with Kristin Shane, senior vice president of merchandising for PetSmart. From corporate life to startup life, Kristin Shane has lead multi-billion dollar businesses at major retailers like Target and PetSmart as well as started an innovative fitness studio concept called Fly Feet Running. Through those experiences she shares the rules of the road to find your authentic voice, be the best version of yourself, live your purpose, and manage a successful career with raising kids and family. 
 
Winners were selected in four categories: Career Achievement, Business Excellence, Commitment to Care and Rising Stars.
