Giant, HowGood launch sustainable retail partnership

2/11/2021

Giant is pushing its efforts towards sustainable retailing and healing the planet one step further.

The Carlisle, Pa.-based company is joining forces with HowGood to help digital grocery shoppers access an easy-to-use environmental and social impact rating system.

“Our new partnership with HowGood reinforces our commitment to healing the planet — whether it’s through greater product transparency or reducing waste,” Manuel Haro, the vice president of strategy and communications at The Giant Company said. “We continue to explore opportunities throughout The GiantCompany’s entire operation to do what we can to further lessen our environmental footprint and empower sustainable choices in our customers’ shopping experience.”

Both Giant Direct and Martin’s Direct customers are able to access the service, which analyzes how each product is ranked against such environmental and social criteria as farming practices, treatment of animals, labor conditions and chemical use.

Products have their sustainability ranked by leaves, meaning the more leaves a product has the more sustainable it is, the company said.

Shoppers also are able to search products via their specific sustainable attributes.
