Giant and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful have announced the return of the Healing the Planet Grant Program, which aims to invest in tree plantings across the company’s operating areas in Pennsylvania.

A total of $112,000 in funding will be awarded to tax-exempt organizations for tree planting projects this year. Eligible projects must be shovel ready and include tree planting and direct costs relating to tree planting.

“From providing food and keeping the streets of our communities cool to providing canopy and habitat for wildlife, trees benefit us every day,” said Courtney Hopcraft, manager of community relations and charitable giving, at Giant. “Building off the success of last year’s program which added more than 3,000 trees to communities across the Commonwealth, we’re excited to once again join forces with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to bring more trees to our communities. Together, we’re creating greener, healthier neighborhoods for all to enjoy while also supporting the health and wellbeing of our team members and customers.”

This is the fifth year Giant has partnered with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to offer Healing the Planet grants. In the past four years, more than $1.2 million has been awarded to 140 recipients for projects that connected people and families to green spaces; improved or helped to protect local waterways and water resources; supported projects that addressed food waste prevention, reduction and recovery; and promoted tree planting initiatives.

"Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is proud to support communities across the Commonwealth in planting native trees, a simple act that brings lasting impact. Greener neighborhoods not only enhance beauty but also help deter littering and other illegal activities, creating safer, more vibrant places to live, work and play," said Heidi Pedicone, director of programs, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. "We’re grateful to continue our partnership with The Giant Company. Together, we are building stronger, healthier communities."
