  • Mega Brands introduces new preschool toys

    NEW YORK — Mega Brands is building up its Mega Bloks brand with a new lineup of preschool toys.

    This year's Mega Bloks preschool construction toy launch includes:

    • The 3-in-1 Build 'n Go walker, which is designed to grow with a child as he or she progresses from crawling to walking. It does triple duty as a wagon, walker and building platform;

    • The Tub Town collection, which is a series of big storage containers filled with fun building blocks featuring such classic play themes as farm, princess and dragons; and

  • Hostess tickled pink with strawberry cupcakes

    IRVING, Texas — Hostess has added a new member to its line of squiggle-topped cupcakes.

    New pink strawberry cupcakes will feature delicious strawberry-flavored icing, Hostess' signature creme filling and the icing squiggle on top.

    Each 15-oz. package includes eight individually wrapped cupcakes and will be available at retailers nationwide.

  • Mylan gets approval for generic version of Vfend

    PITTSBURGH — Mylan has launched a generic drug for fungal infections, the company said Tuesday.

    Mylan announced the launch, through subsidiary Mylan Pharmaceuticals, of voriconazole tablets in the 50-mg and 200-mg strengths. The drug is a triazole antifungal agent.

    The tablets are a generic version of Pfizer’s Vfend, which had sales of $186 million in 2010, according to IMS Health. Mylan launched its version of the drug under a settlement with Pfizer.

  • Philips bulb to tout Energy Star label

    SOMERSET, N.J. — Philips Lighting announced that one of its LED bulbs now will carry the Energy Star label.

    Philips AmbientLED 12.5 watt  — which also is sold under the Philips EnduraLED brand — has met or exceeded the light-quality and energy-efficiency requirements for a 60-watt LED equivalent set forth by Energy Star. 

  • Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Mattel develop 'Green Lantern' toy line

    BURBANK, Calif. — Gearing up for the summer release of superhero flick "Green Lantern," Warner Bros. Consumer Products is teaming up with licensee Mattel to help fans fight evil through a new branded toy line.

    WBCP said Mattel will bring "Green Lantern" to life by producing the lineup, which includes:

    • The Green Lantern Ring Blast jet figure and vehicle;

    • The Green Lantern Battle Shifters figures;

    • The Green Lantern Movie Masters figures; and

  • Keeping kids moving with GeoPalz

    NEW YORK — A line of kid-friendly pedometers is expanding to include two new water-resistant products.

    Designed to motivate physical activity among children, GeoPalz are pedometers that can measure speed and distance of activity and store up to 21 days of data. Each pedometer flips open to reveal how much activity is exerted via the digital tracking display. The mode can be changed to toggle between displaying the steps or the time of day. Each GeoPalz product features kid-friendly designs.

  • FDA grants Acurox priority review

    PALATINE, Ill. — The Food and Drug Administration has accepted for review an application for a pain medication designed to thwart drug abusers.

    Acura Pharmaceuticals announced Monday the acceptance of King Pharmaceuticals’ application for Acurox (oxycodone hydrochloride). King developed the drug using Acura’s Aversion technology, which is designed to limit or impede the ability to abuse the drug by dissolving or crushing the pills and then injecting them.

  • Sealed with a kiss: Shoppers Drug Mart develops lip makeover app

    CALABASAS, Calif. — Shoppers Drug Mart has partnered with FaceCake Marketing Technologies to create a new lip makeover mobile app that enables beauty mavens to use their iPhones to view a lipstick shade on their own image.

    The app is debuting during the retailer's Free Express Lip Makeover campaign in celebration of Valentine's Day.
