  • Mr. Clean with Febreze rolls out New Zealand Springs, Hawaiian Aloha scents

    CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble has introduced two new products that unite the cleaning power of Mr. Clean and the fresh scent of Febreze.

    New Zealand Springs and Hawaiian Aloha scents have joined the Mr. Clean with Febreze lineup. Available in pourable liquids and sprays, each product is designed to freshen and clean virtually all hard surface areas of the home, P&G said.

  • Nicole by OPI responds to 'Bieber Fever' by reissuing nail polish collection

    LOS ANGELES — Nicole by OPI has announced that it will reissue its sold-out One Less Lonely Girl nail lacquer shades, inspired by the songs and fans of pop star Justin Bieber.

    With more than 1 million bottles sold since the December 2010 launch, Nicole by OPI plans to ship triple this number to meet consumer demand.

  • Makena receives FDA approval

    SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug for preventing preterm births.

    The agency announced Friday the approval of Baxter Pharmaceutical Solutions’ Makena (hydroxyprogesterone caproate) injection, for reducing the risk of preterm delivery before 37 weeks of pregnancy in pregnant women with a history of at least one spontaneous preterm birth.

    RACINE, Wis. — Consumers with spring fever will be able to freshen their homes with two limited-edition home fragrances from Glade.

    Bring on the Blossoms and Sparkle of Spring scents are the newest members of the Glade family.   • Lucentis improves vision among diabetes patients in trial

    SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Genentech, a subsidiary of Roche, reported that its eye drug helped improve vision in patients suffering from a complication caused by diabetes.

    In its phase-3 RISE study, Genentech said diabetic macular edema patients that received monthly Lucentis (ranibizumab injection) achieved an improvement in vision at 24 months, compared with placebo.

  • FDA approves Quixin generic

    AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved Hi-Tech Pharmacal’s generic version of a drug for eye infections.

    Hi-Tech announced the approval of levofloxacin ophthalmic solution in the 0.5% strength, a treatment for bacterial conjunctivitis. The company plans to launch next month.

    The drug is a generic version of Vistakon’s Quixin, which had sales of $2 million in 2010, according to IMS Health.

  • Report: Teva seeks approval to market Plan B One-Step for females under 17 years

    NORTH WALES, Pa. — Teva earlier this week announced it had submitted a request to the Food and Drug Administration to allow for the sale of the emergency contraceptive Plan B One-Step to women under the age of 17 years without a prescription, according to published reports.
