Amazon executes first drone delivery

12/14/2016

CAMBRIDGESHIRE, England — Amazon executed its customer drone delivery — comprising an Amazon Fire device and popcorn — here on Dec. 7.

According to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the service, called Amazon Prime Air, took 13 minutes from click to delivery with a customer identified as Richard B. receiving the package.

“First-ever #AmazonPrimeAir customer delivery in the books,” Bezos wrote on Twitter.

According to the New York Times, Amazon will test drone deliveries with two more customers near Cambridge, England, where the company has a large drone-testing plant. The newspaper added Amazon likely selected England as its test site because the UK is more cooperative about drone flights than its American counterparts.

7-Eleven executed a successful drone delivery in the United States earlier this year.
