APhA celebrates new headquarters with ribbon-cutting ceremony on National Mall

12/14/2009

WASHINGTON —In a high-profile ceremony, the American Pharmacists Association dedicated its newly renovated headquarters Nov. 13 on Washington’s National Mall.

This marks the first time the historic national landmark building, the only privately owned building on the National Mall, has been renovated since being built in the 1930s,” noted APhA spokesman Brian Ruberry.

The renovation was designed to achieve a gold rating under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design “Core and Shell” rating system. The upgrade will boost energy efficiency, reduce potable water use by 40% and improve interior air quality, and more than 50% of the site area beyond the building itself now is dedicated to open space and vegetation, according to the pharmacy organization, founded in 1852.
