In honor of the impending weekend, Drug Store News wants you to start your Friday off right with six songs that will get you ready for enjoying one of the last few weekends of summer.
CHVRCHES, “Leave a Trace”
Scottish synth-pop band CHVRCHES (pronounced “churches,” but spelled oddly to make it easy to find with a Google search) is currently dropping tracks from its upcoming sophomore album “Every Open Eye,” which is due out in September. “Leave a Trace” is the first single off the album.
Tame Impala, “Let It Happen”
Tame Impala’s second album has been well-received by critics, but the most important thing to know about this song is just how good it is to listen to in the morning — and the afternoon and evening. It’s one of those songs that sticks with you.
Alabama Shakes, “Gimme All Your Love”
Back in 2012, Alabama Shakes took roots rock by storm with its debut “Boys and Girls.” Their follow up, “Sound and Color” is an even better display of lead singer Brittany Howard’s voice and raw talent. The song, like Howard’s voice, can take you by surprise.
Foals “London Thunder”
Foals’ new album, “What Went Down” is out today, and in typical fashion, “London Thunder” is a little brooding, but a good song for the quickly waning days of summer.
Wavves x Cloud Nothings, “No Life For Me”
This song also has an end-of-summer feel to it, and is the result of the collaboration between two of the biggest names in pop-punk, but don’t let the genre deceive you — it’s unexpectedly melodic and catchy.
Jamie xx, “Loud Places (feat. Romy)”
Jamie xx is the aptly named DJ/producer behind The xx, a project he works on with Romy Madley-Croft (who sings on this track). This is off Jamie xx’s debut album “In Colour,” and will improve your Friday.
