Introducing the DSN Daily Diversion. What is the DSN Daily Diversion? The Daily Diversion is exactly that — it’s a quick escape from the business.
Why are we doing it? There is no better way to explain it than the way former NCAA Basketball coaching legend Jim Valvano, “Jimmy V,” said it back in 1993 as he accepted ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the sports broadcasting network’s annual ESPY awards:
“There are three things we should do every day. Number one is laugh — you should laugh every day. Number two is think — you should spend some time in thought. And three, you should have your emotions moved to tears. Think about that: If you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.”
That’s why we’re doing the Daily Diversion. It doesn’t replace the news and analysis, and great reporting we do at Drug Store News — it’s a quick break from the business to remind us of what’s really important in this life.
So, in the true spirit of the Daily Diversion, and on the eve of the annual ESPY awards, we give you Jimmy V’s last great speech: Words we all should live by.
