Giant, Martin's launches Passport to Nutrition website

9/28/2010

CARLISLE, Pa. Two Ahold banners recently launched a website to promote healthy lifestyle among children.

Giant and Martin's earlier this month launched Passport to Nutrition, a Web-based program designed to give kids and their parents and teachers the information and motivation to achieve a healthier weight by improving one’s lifestyle and eating habits, and features such lessons as understanding nutrition labels, the food pyramid and the importance of physical activity.

“Childhood obesity has become a growing health issue, and it’s important for both kids and their parents to understand what they can do to eat healthy and maintain an active lifestyle,” said Shirley Axe, health-and-wellness manager. “Whether through our Kids Healthy Ideas field trips or kid-friendly nutrition classes in store, combating childhood obesity is important to Giant/Martin’s. We are proud to be among the first grocery chains in the country to create an interactive and educational program for kids’ nutrition.”
