Wegmans Food Markets to open mall location

8/5/2015

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Wegmans Food Markets on Tuesday announced that it will open a store at Natick Mall in Natick, Mass. in a space now occupied, but soon to be vacated, by JC Penney. Wegmans will lease the space from Chicago-based mall owner General Growth Properties.

The space, comprised of 194,000 sq. ft. on three floors, will include a 125,000 sq. ft. Wegmans store, occupying the entire first and half of the second floor. The remaining square footage (approximately 70,000 sq. ft.) will be leased by Wegmans to complementary tenants. Parking will be located in adjacent ramp garages, and there will be direct interior access to Wegmans through existing mall entrances at both levels.

“Natick Mall is an ideal place for us to deliver on our promise of incredible customer service, the best ingredients, restaurant-quality prepared foods and low prices,” stated Ralph Uttaro, Wegmans SVP real estate. “The fact that this will be our first multi-level store within a major mall only adds to our enthusiasm for this project.”

Natick Mall is located about 10 miles west of Boston. Other mall tenants include Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Apple, Crate & Barrel, Tiffany & Co. and Tory Burch.

Pending approvals, Wegmans hopes to begin construction in early 2016 and open the store in spring 2017. Wegmans has three stores in Massachusetts and will open its fourth in Westwood on Oct. 11.
