Walgreens undertakes relief efforts in Puerto Rico

As Puerto Rico recovers from recent earthquakes, Walgreens said it was supporting relief efforts in communities on the island. Through Jan. 22, Walgreens shoppers in Puerto Rico and southern Florida can donate at store checkout to the American Red Cross’ earthquake relief efforts.

“The health and wellbeing of the communities we serve is at the center of our purpose, and we’re proud to do our part to help those who have been impacted in many parts of the island,” said Nivia Santiago, regional vice president for the Florida south/Puerto Rico region at Walgreens. “We’re taking several measures to help support relief efforts, from accepting customer donations to the American Red Cross at store checkout to providing emergency supplies.”

Walgreens also has donated supplies, including over-the-counter medicines, personal hygiene products, baby formula and sunscreen to emergency shelters, as well as donated water to the municipality of Peñuelas.

Currently, Walgreens said nearly all of its 100 stores in Puerto Rico remain open to serve their communities, and that it has deployed a mobile pharmacy to Yauco to ensure patients have access to their prescriptions as the company works to reopen a local store.
