Hisamitsu celebrates $100 million revenue growth with giveaway

5/1/2018
Hisamitsu America will be distributing free samples of topical pain relief throughout Philadelphia on May 18 in celebration of "Salonpas Day," the Florham Park, N.J.-based supplier announced.

"Just like Rocky went from an unknown boxer to champion of the world, Hisamitsu America has grown from a $17 million brand in 2010 to a $119 million brand in 2017 that sold almost 700 patches per minute,” John Incledon, president, Hisamitsu America, said. “As the birthplace of ‘Rocky’ and the City of Brotherly Love, we chose Philadelphia as the city to share our gratitude and our product.”

Incledon and his team will help distribute thousands of free Salonpas patches across the city including the Liberty Bell area, Washington Square, Love Park and along the 72 stone steps before the entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, more commonly known as the "Rocky Steps.”

“’Salonpas Day’ is celebrated by delivering patch culture hand by hand around the world,” Incledon said.  “Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical follows the Customer-First Principle: always looking for ways to satisfy existing customers while enticing new customers. We believe that Salonpas Day is the perfect way to honor that principle."

The day is also a nod to a long-standing Japanese practice. "‘Koriwoi Yasu’, which loosely translates to ‘relieve stiffness’ from Japanese, also contains references to the numbers 5, 1 and 8, hence the May 18 date,” Incledon said.

In concert with Salonpas Day, the company is also offering 350,000 free samples of the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch online beginning May 18 while supplies last.  Salonpas Day will be supported by a full-page advertisement in the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News as well as outdoor marketing including electronic billboards.
