AFA to offer memory screenings

8/24/2009

NEW YORK An organization focused on Alzheimer’s disease announced plans Monday to offer free screenings.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America said it would have its annual National Memory Screening Day event on Nov. 17 at Kmart Pharmacy stores, doctor’s offices, assisted living facilities and senior centers around the country. Support from the event will come from almost 20 professional and trade groups, including the American Pharmacists Association and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation.

“It’s our responsibility to break through the enormous stigma, denial and lack of recognition about memory problems that still exist today,” AFA president Eric Hall said in a statement. “Memory screenings and open dialogue between healthcare professionals and their patients can lead to answers and appropriate interventions.”
