Allscripts launches new patient kiosk technology
CHICAGO Healthcare technology company Allscripts announced Tuesday the introduction of a new patient kiosk technology for physician practices.
The company developed the Allscripts Patient Kiosk with Japanese information technology company Fujitsu. The kiosk incorporates Fujitsu’s PalmSecure biometric authentication technology in order to protect the safety and privacy of electronic health records and other sensitive patient information.
“Physician practices are always on the lookout for ways to lower costs while improving patient satisfaction, and the Allscripts Patient Kiosk is the answer,” Springfield Clinic chief information officer James Hewitt said. “Patients love the kiosk because they are in control.”
Springfield Clinic helped Allscripts and Fujitsu develop the kiosk, and plans to deploy 50 of them this quarter.
The kiosk allows patients to check in by placing their hands on a reader so that they can pay their co-pays, update or correct mistakes in personal information and get alerts about needed treatments.
