AstraZeneca to pay $198 million for Seroquel complaints
WILMINGTON, Del. Anglo-Swedish drug maker AstraZeneca has settled 17,500 product liability cases involving one of its drugs, AstraZeneca said Monday.
The drug maker announced that it would pay $198 million to users of the psychiatric drug Seroquel (quetiapine fumarate) who had alleged it caused them to develop diabetes.
In addition, 2,900 of the cases were dismissed, and AstraZeneca won the one case that has so far gone to jury trial.
