Coalition formed to lower price of malaria drugs
NEW YORK Several governments and international health organizations have formed an organization to combat malaria, according to published reports.
The Affordable Medicines Facility for Malaria, or AMFm, comprises organizations such as the Roll Back Malaria Partnership and European governments. The goal is to reduce the price of malaria drugs.
Malaria, caused by a mosquito-borne parasite, affects hundreds of millions of people, mostly in tropical parts of the world, as well as travelers in those areas from temperate regions. More than 1 million people die of the disease every year, mostly young children in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
