FDA approves non-drug treatment of depression using magnetic pulses
WASHINGTON The Food and Drug Administration has approved a treatment for depression that uses magnetic stimulation, maker Neuronetics announced Wednesday.
The Malvern, Pa.-based medical device company said it will introduce the treatment, NeuroStar TMS Therapy, in a small number of treatment centers.
The device delivers a magnetic pulse to the area of the brain linked to depression with a strength equal to that of an MRI scan. The procedure will take 40 minutes each day for four to six weeks.
