FTC wants more information from Merck, Schering-Plough about their merger

6/22/2009

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. The Federal Trade Commission wants more information from drug makers Merck & Co. and Schering-Plough Corp. about their proposed merger, the two companies announced Monday.

Each company received a request for additional information about the merger, which they expected as part of the regulatory process under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, and said they would cooperate with the FTC.

The boards of both companies approved the merger earlier this year, but it is subject to approval by each company’s shareholders and the satisfaction of regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. The two companies expect the merger to be completed during fourth quarter 2009.
