HUNT Biosciences appoints former GE Healthcare executive to CEO post

4/23/2009

LEVANGER, Norway The commercial arm of a satellite organization of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology focused on biosciences has appointed a former General Electric Healthcare executive as its CEO.

HUNT Biosciences, part of the HUNT Study, announced the appointment of former GE Healthcare director Per Foss.

The company provides pharmaceutical and healthcare companies with biomarker discovery and validation services, based on the HUNT study, which has gathered blood samples from the general population of the Nord-Trondelag region along with phenotype and environmental data. The data are used in research on disease states such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, lung disease, osteoporosis and mental health. The study is in its 25th year.

“For both pharmaceutical and biotech companies, HUNT Biosciences is ideally positioned to devise biomarker strategies across a wide range of key disease areas,” Foss said. “The unique combination of biomedical and phenotypic information collected over the past 25 years from the general population rather than specific cohort promises rapid and effective biomarker discovery and validation.”
