Kenya tries to control outbreak of drug counterfeiting

NEW YORK An official in Kenya has said the country lacks the capacity to deal with people found with counterfeit drugs, according to a report published in a newspaper there.

The chief pharmaceutical inspector for the country, Wilfred Oguta, said weak penalties—amounting to 5,000 Kenyan shillings, or about $65—were insufficient to deter counterfeiters.
