IRVINE, Calif. — PrescribeWellness on Tuesday named former executive director of the American Pharmacists Association Foundation Mindy Smith to its leadership team and clinical advisory team.
“We are excited about Mindy joining the PrescribeWellness leadership team,” PrescribeWellness President Al Babbington said. “We have been able to work directly with Mindy in her role with the APhA Foundation on the Patient Self-Management credential and are thrilled to be able to bring her experience, energy and passion for pharmacy to PrescribeWellness.”
Smith will lead the clinical advisory team to develop and deliver clinical service opportunities to PrescribeWellness’ virtual alliance of over 10,000 independent community pharmacies.
“Our pharmacies have the tools and the experience to deliver adherence, disease management and other population health services,” Babbington said. “Mindy brings the relationships and expertise to drive utilization of these much-needed services into our pharmacies. We have bold plans to accelerate our efforts to create innovative revenue opportunities for our clients, and Mindy will help us get there.”
During her four years as executive director of APhA Foundation, Smith developed and directed research initiatives, projects and programs that improved consumer health outcomes by using pharmacist collaborative practice models. She also led the foundation’s recent launch of PSM Solutions, a model that can reduce the overall annual cost of diabetes care by approximately $1,000 per patient, improve health outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.
“PrescribeWellness is empowering community pharmacists by providing them with tools and information they need to actively support their patients’ healthcare needs,” Smith said. “This is powerful and changing the way health care is being delivered by the most accessible healthcare provider in the country, our community pharmacist.”
Prior to leading the American Pharmacists Association Foundation, Smith served as CEO of the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance from 2006-2011 and served as the executive director of the Wyoming Pharmacy Association from 2003-2006.
Smith earned both a Bachelor of Science in Zoology-Physiology from the University of Wyoming in 1995 and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1998 from the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. Smith serves on the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations affiliated Alliance for Patient Medication Safety. Smith also serves on the board the Alliance for Integrated Medication Management.
