Sanofi-Aventis launches CHP for Hispanic, black communities

4/27/2009

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. A program set up by drug maker Sanofi-Aventis has strengthened relationships between large institutions and small community-based organizations in Baltimore, the company said at a Washington conference Monday.

Sanofi said at the sixth annual National Minority Quality Forum Health Disparities Leadership Summit that its Community Health Partnership had forced “significant alliances” between Baltimore medical institutions like Johns Hopkins University,  the University of Maryland Medical System and Hispanic and black community organizations.

“We are very pleased with the results of the program in Baltimore,” Baltimore community health liaison Dwyan Monroe said. “Since our launch in October 2008, we’ve worked in close partnership with leaders in our community to distribute information to patients and to increase the effectiveness of patient self care.”

The company said the CHP’s objective was to empower patients in black and Hispanic communities by leveraging and strengthening connections among healthcare providers, community-based organizations and patients. The program operates in Baltimore, San Antonio, Miami, New York, Memphis, Tenn., and Newark, N.J.
