Teva releases generic version of Depakote ER

NORTH WALES, Pa. The world’s largest generic drug company has released a generic epilepsy drug.

Teva Pharmaceuticals announced the availability of divalproex sodium extended-release tablets in the 500-mg strength.

The drug, used to treat epilepsy, is a generic version of Abbott Labs’ Depakote ER. Depakote had sales of $1.3 billion in 2008, according to Abbott financial data, though the company did not list sales figures for Depakote ER.
