Publix announced that its Super Markets Charities, or PSMC, would be donating $2.5 million to support 121 Habitat for Humanity affiliates, as well as 77 other organizations focused on shelter and housing services in the Southeast.

“We are proud to continue our support of Habitat for Humanity and other organizations focused on housing to help build hope in our communities,” Publix Super Markets Charities’ executive director Kelly Williams-Puccio, said. “Publix Charities is committed to carrying on the legacy of our founder to do good together for those in need.”

The donation is part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to meet the basic needs of the communities it serves through the support of client service programs and transitional support for housing, the company said.

“The support of Publix Super Markets Charities enables Habitat for Humanity to build strength, stability and self-reliance for families in need,” Claire Twomey, CEO at Lakeland Habitat for Humanity, said. “We are grateful for their continued partnership in creating stronger communities through homeownership.”

PSMC began its support for Habitat for Humanity in 1989 with its first contribution to the Habitat of Humanity of East Polk County in Winter Haven, Fl.
