Publix makes Fortune's “The World's Most Admired Companies” list

Publix has been recognized once again by Fortune magazine.

The Lakeland, Fla.-based retailer has been named one of “The World's Most Admired Companies,” coming in at No.1 in the food and drug store industry category, the company said.

Determined on rankings calculated from business people within each industry, the list of “The World's Most Admired Companies” asked survey respondents to rate the company in their own industry on nine criteria that ranged from investment value to social responsibility.

In order to be listed, a company’s score must have ranked in the top half on its industry survey, the company said.

Publix currently operates 1,239 stores across Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
