Publix’s leadership division is undergoing a change.

The Lakeland, Fla.-based company announced that Pete Mowitt, vice president of business development for bakery and meat, will retire on April 30.

Mowitt, who began his career with the company in 1975 as a service clerk in Miami, served as a store manager in 1991, district manager in 1995, director of merchandising in 1998 and as the business development director of grocery in 2000.

“Pete is a passionate leader,” Publix president Kevin Murphy said. “Throughout his career, he has developed associates to help our stores better serve our customers. We thank him for his more than four decades of service and the positive impact he’s had on our company.”

Norman Badger, the Charlotte division regional director, will be taking over the role after Mowitt’s retirement, the company said.

Badger, who began his career at Publix in 1995 as a front service clerk in South Carolina, took over the store manager role in 2007 and served as a district manager in 2014.

“Norman models our mission and is dedicated to serving Publix associates and customers,” Murphy said. “His leadership was instrumental in the growth of the Charlotte division. I’m excited about the contributions he’ll make in this role.”
