Former CIA, NSA director to keynote NACDS Total Store Expo

6/8/2018
Retired four-star Gen. Michael Hayden, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Association, will keynote the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Total Store Expo. The annual event is set to take place Aug. 25-27 in Denver, with Hayden speaking on Aug. 26 as part of NACDS Total Store Expo’s Business Program.

“It is a tremendous privilege to have General Hayden speak at the NACDS Total Store Expo,” said NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson. “General Hayden addressed the 2010 NACDS Annual Meeting and the audience thoroughly appreciated and benefitted from the insights he provided at that event. As the director of the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency during particularly challenging times in our country’s history, he is highly experienced at dealing with complex security issues and with one of the topics on the minds of industry leaders today: change. It will certainly be an honor to welcome him back.”

Hayden currently serves as a principal at the Chertoff Group and is a member of Motorola Solutions’ board of directors. His past service also includes director of the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center, commander of the Air Intelligence Agency and the first principal deputy director of National Intelligence. NACDS said he would be able to offer attendees a look into his understanding of national security issues, international conflicts and relations.

Also addressing attendees as part of NACDS Total Store Expo is former White House press secretary Josh Earnest, who will speak to the NACDS Political Involvement Reception during NACDS Total Store Expo.

“We’re anticipating a very lively and insightful discussion on the current political climate from Josh Earnest, who is so good at parsing the complicated national and global issues of the day,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “I’m sure Josh’s firsthand experience in the incredibly challenging job of White House press secretary will give us a window into a world few people in recent times have seen so closely.”

Earnest is currently chief communications officer for United Airlines. The event he is speaking at will be open to NACDS-PAC contributors and invited guests.
