Southeastern Grocers is looking to help 424 public schools throughout the southeast.

The company, which is parent to Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie, announced the donation of $350,000, which was made possible via a three-week community program that allowed shoppers to round up their grocery bill to the nearest dollar or donate a dollar amount of their choice.

Funds raised are to be given directly to each store’s school partner to support and uplift teachers and help both staff and students throughout the school year, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based company said.

“Our communities are the heart of our business, and we care passionately about enriching the lives of neighbors we serve each day. We want to share our sincere gratitude to our customers who donated in our stores to help elevate school programming for 424 local schools and support our leaders of tomorrow,” Elizabeth Thompson, chief people officer of Southeastern Grocers, said. “It is through their generosity that we are able to positively impact vital educational needs and uplift teachers, staff and students as they begin a new school year.”

Through this donation, Southeastern Grocers is looking to continue its efforts to give back to the local communities it serves.

In the prior year, the retailer and its SEG Gives Foundation expanded their mission of helping local communities by including education as its fourth charitable giving pillar and the establishment of the Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant program, the company said.
