    ROCKVILLE, Md. The Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee on Monday recommended that protection against the 2009 H1N1 virus, which was first identified last April, be included in the 2010-2011 seasonal influenza vaccine starting this fall.

  • N.Y. HearUSA centers to offer free hearing screening, diabetes video

    WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. A leader in hearing care is offering patients free hearing-loss screenings, along with a free 80-minute "Living With Diabetes" video, produced by the American Diabetes Association, during the month of March.

    HearUSA, one of America's largest hearing care and hearing aids companies, encourages people with diabetes to visit one of their centers in New York state for a free screening next month, noting a National Institutes of Health landmark study indicated that diabetics are twice as likely to experience hearing loss.

  • FDA approves Menveo

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Novartis has received Food and Drug Administration approval for a vaccine for meningococcal disease, the Swiss drug maker’s vaccines division announced Monday.

    The FDA approved Menveo (meningococcal [groups A, C, Y and W-135] oligosaccharide diphtheria CRM197) to prevent meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis bacteria.

     

  • AANP honors Sandy Ryan as a 2009 Fellow

    CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. —Take Care Health Systems’ Sandy Ryan, who has been instrumental in the growth and success of the convenient care industry as the industry’s first chief nurse practitioner, has been honored by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners for her outstanding contributions to health care.

    The AANP honored Ryan as a 2009 Fellow during the 24th AANP National Conference in Nashville, Tenn., in June.

  • Take Care opens four clinics in Pittsburgh area; plans for fifth by year’s end

    PITTSBURGH, Pa. Take Care Health Systems, which is owned by Walgreens, has expanded its presence in Pennsylvania with new retail-based health clinics in the Philadelphia area and Pittsburgh.

    The company has opened the doors of four new clinics in the Pittsburgh area.

    A fifth new clinic is slated to open in Pittsburgh in late December. These openings are in addition to eight existing Pittsburgh locations. There are now 15 clinics statewide.

  • Cardinal Health bolsters clinic program

    INDIANAPOLIS —Many industry observers may not be familiar with Corner Care Clinic, but that is likely to change as Cardinal Health has formed an alliance with, and is a minority investor in, the clinic operator.

    Cardinal Health teamed up with Indianapolis-based clinic operator MindGent Healthcare Clinic’s Corner Care Clinic to open in October 2006 the first retail-based clinic. Today, there are 27 walk-in clinic locations.
