The Association for Accessible Medicines issued a statement in support of President Biden’s 'Build Back Better' plan, commending the administration for recognizing the importance of generic drugs and biosimilars in providing affordable life saving drugs to Americans, as well as and in producing healthcare savings.

“AAM and our member companies are ready to partner with the Biden administration to ensure all Americans have access to the lifesaving medications they need at a price that they can afford,” the statement said.

The organization also noted that 90% percent of the prescriptions filled in the United States are for safe, effective and affordable generic medications, yet they account for only 20% of all drug spending.

"President Biden rightly recognizes the centrality of generic drugs to the American healthcare system and sees the incredible potential for biosimilars to play a similarly essential role in the coming years. We look forward to working with the Administration to increase the $313 billion in savings that generic drugs generated in 2019 and build on the tremendous success of biosimilars in recent years,” the organization said in a statement.
