During the American Diabetes Association’s annual conference held recently in Orlando, Fla., Abbott debuted its latest addition to the FreeStyle Libre portfoliothe FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor.

The company touts the new product as the world’s smallest, thinnest and most discreet sensor, offering an extended wear-time of 15 days and future connectivity with automated insulin delivery (AID) systems.

The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor is the modified Libre 3 sensor cleared in 2023 by the Food and Drug Administration to work with AID systems. It’s indicated for use by people 2 years and older and offers a wear time of 15 days. It’s the same size as the Libre 3 sensor (the size of two stacked U.S. pennies).

The sensor will be available in U.S. retail pharmacies and participating durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers in the next few months.

No scanning required. When the Libre 3 Plus sensor is paired with the Libre 3 system’s smartphone app or reader, users will automatically see their latest glucose information after opening the app or when they receive an alarm notification.
