Albertsons readies for 2021-22 flu season with flu, COVID-19 shots
With flu season on the horizon and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encouraging flu shots and COVID-19 vaccinations, Albertsons is highlighting its pharmacies’ readiness.
The Boise, Idaho-based company said pharmacies across its banners are stocked with flu shots and COVID-19 vaccine doses, including COVID-19 booster shots for those who are immunocompromised.
“Our pharmacy teams are dedicated to protecting the health of the communities we serve, and we are committed to ensuring everyone has access to COVID-19 and flu vaccines. We have administered more than 6.5 million COVID-19 vaccinations to date, and with flu season approaching, we are now offering flu shots as well,” said Omer Gajial, Albertsons senior vice president of pharmacy and health. “Customers can now safely receive both vaccines via a single appointment or can also schedule them independently.”

The company noted that appointments can be made using its online scheduler, but that its 1,725 pharmacies will also offer the vaccines on a walk-in basis.
Flu vaccines are available to patients as young as 6 months old, where allowed by law. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to patients as young as 12 years old, while the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available for patients 18 years old and older. Any minors receiving a COVID-19 vaccine must have an adult sign a consent and release form. Albertsons said its pharmacies offer a free digital vaccine record that can be downloaded and saved to a digital device. Customers who receive an immunization also receive a coupon for 10% off their next grocery purchase up to $200.
“According to CDC guidelines, it is still recommended that pregnant and breastfeeding women receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and an additional dose of mRNA vaccine is recommended for qualifying individuals who are immunocompromised, “said Erin Shaal, Albertsons vice president of pharmacy procurement, specialty and patient care services. “Your Albertsons Cos. pharmacists can help you determine which vaccines are best for you and staying up-to-date with recommended vaccines is the best tool we have to protect the individuals and communities we serve.”
Albertsons said it also offers on-site vaccine clinics for business and other organizations who want to ensure their employees have access to these immunizations.
