Cardinal Health chosen to distribute COVID-19 vaccines in Ohio

Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health has been chosen by its home state to support its efforts in distributing COVID-19 vaccines. The Ohio Department of Health has chosen Cardinal Health’s OptiFreight Logistics to provide same-day delivery services of any vaccine doses the state receives for in-state distribution to Ohio’s 350 vaccine locations and 88 counties.

The company said Ohio is anticipating the first doses it receives — of Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine, which received emergency use authorization over the weekend — will require special handling and temperature controls. Cardinal Health said OptiFreight Logistics would be able to use its expertise in transporting sensitive products to ensure safe and successful deliveries.

“We are proud to provide our services to support our home state," said Steve Mason, CEO of  Cardinal Health’s medical segment. "A fully coordinated supply chain is critical to getting Americans safely vaccinated, and Cardinal Health is uniquely positioned to support Ohio's vaccination efforts so we can collectively begin to put COVID-19 behind us.”
