Dollar General is expanding the size of its board of directors in more than one way.

The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based chain appointed Debra A. Sandler to its board, effective April 1.

“On behalf of Dollar General and its board of directors, I am excited to welcome Debra to our team,” said Michael Calbert, Dollar General’s chairman of the board and chairman of the nominating and governance committee. “We are confident that Debra’s numerous leadership roles and extensive experience will provide considerable insights and contributions to support Dollar General.”

Sandler is president and CEO of La Grenade Group. She has previously served as CEO of Mavis Foods and held positions at Mars, Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Nutritionals.

With Sandler's appointment, the board of directors will increase from eight to nine members. She will also serve on the board’s nominating and governance committees, the company said.
