4/20/2020

Dollar General’s presence has now reached 46 states with the opening of a brand new location in the state of Washington.

The retailer opened the doors to its first store in Washington state in the city of Cathlamet, serving residents of Wahkiakum County.

“Dollar General is proud to extend our store presence and bring our mission of serving others to Washington state residents. We are proud to be able to open and operate stores to serve our customers and communities with an affordable and convenient retail option, particularly during these unprecedented times,” Steve Sunderland, executive vice president of store operations, said. “We believe the opening of each new Dollar General store represents a positive economic impact, and we look forward to being a longstanding business partner and serving our Washington customers.”

Following in the footsteps of other Dollar General stores, this new location will dedicate the first hour of operations every day to senior customers and provide the medical community, first responders and the National Guard with a 10% discount on qualifying purchases through April 30.

Although a grand opening celebration for the store is set to take place at a later date, the store operating hours can be found online.

In addition, the Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based retailer is investing approximately $35 million in bonuses for eligible employees who work over a six-week period, as well as a 30% discount on private brands through early May.

Like other retailers, Dollar General also is looking to hire up to 50,000 employees by the end of April across its field, distribution center and private fleet networks to help support the heightened demand in Washington state, as well as throughout the rest of the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
