Euclid Medical Products, a leading provider of pharmacy automation equipment, is debuting the Axial Multi-Dose Machines, a new line of next generation strip adherence pouch packaging machines and consumables with unit- and multi-dose capabilities.

The company pointed out that approximately 50% of medications for chronic diseases are not taken as prescribed. This lack of adherence is estimated to cause nearly 125,000 deaths and at least 10% of hospitalizations. It also cost the American healthcare system between $100 billion and $289 billion per year. "Multi-dose medication packaging, using the Axial packaging machine, promotes adherence and simplifies the process for the patient by pouch packaging medications and labeling with appropriate time of day," the company said.

“At Euclid Medical Products, we are committed to helping our customers reduce costs and improve overall operational efficiency,” said Kevin Copsey, Euclid Medical Products business unit director. “The Axial machine will not only increase productivity amongst pharmacists, but also improve patient adherence.”

The Axial Multi-Dose Packaging Machines come in two models — Axial RMD-144 and Axial RMD-352 — with a small footprint that is 2 ft. by 2 ft. and 2 ft. by 4 ft., respectively. The company said that the machine's rotary design allows for easy canister access and simplified cleaning, offering storage for 144 to 352 canisters, depending on the model. The smart canisters have radio frequency identification technology and can be placed anywhere in the machine. It can package at speeds up to 65 pouches per minute.
