Giant Food wants to put a healthy spin on people's daily work routines.
To do just that, the retailer is rolling out its #HealthyAtWork challenge, which not only looks to support in-house workplace wellness initiatives, but also encourages its associates to move more and add healthier options to their meals.
“Although many of our customers have settled into a new life routine, our associates remain on the frontlines maintaining a sense of normalcy for the community,” Lisa Coleman, director of healthy living at Giant Food, said. “Our goal is to essentially 'care for the caregivers' by focusing on ways we can help our associates stay healthy and #HealthyAtWork is just one of the ways we can support this goal.”
Through this challenge, associates will be prompted to participate in weekly goals that build on each other in order to create habits that support a healthier lifestyle. During these four weeks, participants can expect a layout that includes:
- Week One: Hydrating with water and rethinking sugary beverages;
- Week Two: Adding a fruit or vegetable to either a meal or snack;
- Week Three: Swapping in healthier options of favorite foods that have been labeled with Giant’s Guiding Stars nutrition navigation ratings; and
- Week Four: Adding a new ingredient or recipe to mealtime.
Associates will follow the program using a booklet that contains tips and coupons, viewing brief nutritionist-led videos, and by wearing #HealthyAtWork buttons, the company said.
