Longtime Albertsons executive Mark Panzer is departing the retailer. A company spokesperson told Drug Store News that Panzer — most recently senior vice president of pharmacy, health and wellness, has left Albertsons to pursue other interests.

“We sincerely thank Mark for his contributions in leading our GM/HBC and Pharmacy teams for the last several years, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” the spokesperson said.

Panzer had been in his most recent position since May 2015, having held leadership roles at Albertsons during an earlier stint at the company. During his time at Albertsons, Panzer's sought to bring together the pharmacy and center store to create a stronger health-and-wellness offering. He also oversaw efforts to grow Albertsons pharmacy's clinical offerings. His tenure also coincided with the integration of Albertsons and Safeway, and included the build out of Albertsons' specialty pharmacy offering.

In 2018, Panzer was named chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, a role in which he served for a year.

In addition to his work at Albertsons, over the course of Panzer's more than 40-year career — which began at Osco Drug — he has held leadership roles at Rite Aid and Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy.
