The Inform Consumers Act would crack down on organized retail crime networks and protect consumers and retailers by promoting transparency and accountability of online marketplaces.

“Passage of the INFORM Consumers Act through the U.S. House of Representatives marks a vital step forward in combating organized retail crime networks, safeguarding online consumers from illicit products and fraud and protecting in-store consumers and store teams from criminal activity,” NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson said.

The House version of the larger competitiveness legislation is expected to be conferenced with the U.S. Senate’s United States Innovation and Competition Act of 2021. The House and Senate must pass legislation in identical form before it can be presented to President Biden for signature.
