NACDS honors member pharmacies during diabetes month
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores is recognizing Diabetes Awareness month in November by showcasing NACDS member pharmacies’ role in the prevention and management of diabetes during the month of November and throughout the year.
NACDS noted that more than 38 million Americans, including adults and youth, have been diagnosed with diabetes. According to the American Diabetes Association, 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year—and an additional 98 million Americans have pre-diabetes, as defined by blood glucose (blood sugar) levels that are higher than normal but not high enough for a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Pre-diabetes is a condition that increases the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
A series of NACDS digital content across Facebook, LinkedIn and X demonstrates the vital role of pharmacies and pharmacists when it comes to diabetes prevention and disease management. View the content below and share with the official campaign hashtag, #NourishMyHealth.
The November social media campaign comes as part of NACDS’ broader public education initiative, Nourish My Health, which emphasizes the importance of preventive screenings and healthy foods to reduce the risk of diet-related heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Both the Diabetes Month social media campaign and Nourish My Health exist as part of the Health and Wellness Innovation Initiative at NACDS.

NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson said, “Pharmacies and pharmacists nationwide are stepping up during Diabetes Month and helping people take charge of their health to prevent or manage diabetes. NACDS is proud to honor our member pharmacies as they work to meet people wherever they are on their healthcare journey."
Anderson added, "The NACDS Nourish My Health public education campaign, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary, is just one example of how pharmacies can scale what they are doing in other ways, throughout the total store—in driving food is medicine initiatives, in providing prevention and management services for chronic diseases and in delivering total health and wellness solutions."
Nourish My Health—a collaboration with national health organizations—was developed in response to the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. That 2022 conference was the basis for the national strategy to end hunger, improve nutrition and reduce disease. Nourish My Health encourages baseline health screening to understand disease risks; offers healthy food guides and nutrition information; hosts resources for professionals; and hosts a nutrition security survey which informs meaningful access solutions.
