NeedyMeds' drug discount card exceeds $300M in savings
The NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card has surpassed $300 million in drug savings for its users, the company announced recently. The Gloucester, Mass.-based company shares information on hundreds of programs that offer free medications to those who qualify.
“Our mission is to help people experiencing financial difficulties save on medications and healthcare costs," said Rich Sagall, president and co-founder of NeedyMeds. "Our approach is different from every other drug discount card on the market.”
Sagall noted that the company prefers to help consumers use programs funded by drug manufacturers that offer free medicine to qualified patients. "We’d rather people not use a card to save if they qualify for a program to get the medicine for free.”
Robin Hoffman, director of operations, said that the card requires no sign-up, registration or enrollment process and anyone can use it without sharing user-identifiable information. It also is free with no fees or enrollment costs.
In addition to drug discount card savings, NeedyMeds.org has information on more than 18,000 free/low-cost/sliding scale clinics; more than 4,000 programs that help based on diagnosis; and nearly 2,000 coupons, copay cards, and rebate programs.
“All the information on our website is current, comprehensive, and easily accessible,” said Damaris Mercedes Hernandez, manager of NeedyMeds' research department. “Perhaps best of all, all the information is free through our website or from one of our counselors on our toll-free line (1-800-503-6897).”
The NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card is available on the website or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to NeedyMeds, 50 Whittemore St., Gloucester, Mass. 01930.
