10/25/2007

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands Ahold is investing on a major three-year plan to remodel or replace about 100 Giant Food supermarkets in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC.

The remodeling program will be called “Project Refresh” and will represent Ahold’s largest investment in the chain since it bought it back in 1998. The program will focus on improving the perishable food sections and modernizing the stores to improve customer convenience.

Ahold expects to keep its stores open during the process. The chain, which is headquartered in Landover, Md., operates 185 stores in four states.
