Albertsons rolls out Apple Pay to all its banners

BOISE, Idaho — All of Albertsons’ banner stores are now equipped to let customers pay for their purchases with Apple Pay. The mobile payment solution has been available at Albertsons’ Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Star Market, Haggen and United banners, and rolled out Monday to Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Tom Thumb, Randalls and Carrs locations.

"We are focused on meeting our customers wherever and however they like to shop," Albertsons EVP and chief information officer Anuj Dhanda said. "We are pleased to enhance that experience by offering Apple Pay across all of our stores. Customers want faster, time-saving options that are stable and secure. Apple Pay satisfies that need and fits in well with our omnichannel shopping solutions."

Rather than storing card numbers on the device or on Apple servers. Apple Pay creates a unique Device Account Number for a credit or debit card used, authorizing each payment with a one-time unique security code, the company said.
