BOISE, Idaho and CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The recently merged Albertsons and Safeway organization announced that current intermountain president Susan Morris has been appointed president of the Denver division.

Paul McTavish, who had previously been named to this position, announced his retirement after 42 years with Safeway, effective March 13.

In her new role, Morris will have overall responsibility for the five state operating area (Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota and New Mexico) including 141 stores and eight districts.

Morris began her career with Albertsons in Denver while attending school at Colorado State University. She worked through various positions in the Denver area and Northern California, and was promoted to corporate grocery sales director in Boise. Morris held successive roles as VP of bakery and operations, and upon the sale of Albertsons' assets to Supervalu, became VP of customer satisfaction. Prior to being named intermountain division president in 2013, Morris was the VP of marketing and merchandising for Albertsons LLC’s Southwest division. Her successor in the intermountain division will be announced at a later date.

“Susan brings a tremendous amount of leadership and talent to the Denver division.  She is a results-driven retailer with a keen marketing sense and a unique understanding of consumer needs in Colorado and the surrounding states,” said Kelly Griffith, EVP and COO, North Region.
