2/8/2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Cardinal Health Chairman and CEO George Barrett was named chairman of the Healthcare Leadership Council, an alliance of companies and organizations representing all sectors of American healthcare. He is serving a two-year term in this role.

“The members of HLC share a common goal of fostering innovation to develop breakthrough cures and medical treatments, but as important, to bring innovation to the delivery and coordination of care making it more accessible and patient centered,” Barrett said. “We are at an inflection point in American healthcare and I am honored to be the Chairman of HLC at this important time.”

Barrett, at the helm of Cardinal Health since 2009, succeeds Susan DeVore, president and CEO of Premier. He was elected by fellow HLC member executives.

“As we enter a period of significant transition in health policy, we are fortunate to have a chairman who has hands-on experience in strengthening healthcare quality and safety while improving efficiency and who has been a leading voice for patient-centered reforms,” said HLC president Mary R. Grealy.

The nonpartisan Healthcare Leadership Council is engaged in advocacy on a wide range of issues, including Medicare and Medicaid reform, heath data access and interoperability, health insurance market improvements and initiatives to incentivize healthcare innovation.
